About the role
Reporting into the Health, Safety and Training Superintendent this role is suited to someone who is passionate about keeping people safe and making a positive impact through the maintenance, development and delivery of effective safety and training systems, processes, initiatives and related programs. Based at our Brisbane Port operations, this role offers a unique opportunity to join a high-performing team and grow alongside industry leaders.
Key Responsibilities
Positively influence and advise leaders and workers on health and safety matters, requirements under applicable legislation and company policies and procedures to drive forward the agenda for positive health and safety culture in the workplace.
Advise management of current health and safety trends, issues and potential impacts of industry practices and legislative change and recommend strategies to address these aspects appropriately.
Conduct and lead incident investigations with team or independently and make recommendations on actions which supports the company incident prevention ethos.
Support the training function through development and provision of specific high-quality health and safety training, verification of competency, support and resources to promote team and line management effectiveness in performing their duties and functions.
Participate in leading with the maintenance, development, and delivery of our Health and Safety and Training Management systems.
Lead the implement and maintenance of an effective hazard / risk program through workplace inspections, behavioural safety observations, risk assessment and control reviews.
Develop, participate in and contribute to toolbox talks and safety meetings.
Assist with the maintenance and implementation of updating safety procedures, forms, templates, and guides.
Maintain a strong working knowledge of, and ensure compliance with, relevant Work Health and Safety legislation, policies, and procedures.
Support in the delivery of important Health Management Initiatives including injury management.
Desired Skills and Experience
Essential skills and experience
Current Drivers’ Licence.
An appropriate tertiary qualification or lesser qualifications with extensive relevant industry experience in a high-risk work environment.
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role within a high risk work environment.
Qualified Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator. (Desirable)
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment / Workplace Assessor
Lead Auditor Health and Safety Management System. (Desirable)
High level of computer literacy and software skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication and high level of attention to detail is a must.
Strong relationship building skills, analytical skills and written and verbal communication skills will ensure you are successful in this role. Port operations occur around the clock and seven days a week. Whilst the Health and Safety Advisor is largely a day-based role, there will be a requirement to work on some evenings / nights, and on some weekends to support the operation
