Located 15km from the Townsville CBD, Sun Metals is one of the most technologically advanced zinc refineries in the world, producing Special High Grade Zinc metal, Zinc Alloy metal and by-products of Sulfuric Acid, Copper, Cadmium, and Zinc Ferrite.  Our process involves Roasting, Leaching, Purification, Electrolysis and Casting with sales to both domestic and international markets.

Job Description

Reporting to the Duty Officer Coordinator within the Risk and Assurance Department, Duty Officers provide Security, First Aid and Health & Safety support for the site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The position offers an attractive 4 on 4 off rotating day / night continuous roster.  

Key responsibilities of Duty Officers are:

  • Monitoring personnel, vehicles and assets accessing the site;
  • Maintaining security of buildings and property;
  • Maintaining the first aid facility;
  • Initial contact for all site Emergency and first aid response; and
  • Providing support regarding site health and safety activities.

Desired Skills and Experience

We are looking for the following attributes in candidates for this position:

  • Good verbal and written communication skills with ability to liaise with all levels of the organisation;
  • Previous experience in security operation and surveillance systems and/or emergency response occupations;
  • Occupational First Aid certificate;
  • Ability to develop workable solutions to issues and take appropriate action to address;
  • Strong initiative and self-management; and
  • Intermediate computer skills (Microsoft Office).
