Job Description

Reporting to the Manager Electrical Maintenance and working closely with the Senior Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for development and maintenance plans, preparing schedules, reviewing work orders, data analysis of failure trends and shutdown preparation.

You will work in conjunction with operations and maintenance to provide the best solutions for the business, and effectively communicate plant status and key issues while maintaining an awareness of costs, key performance indicators and critical controls. 

You will drive high safety performance through personal leadership and build team capability through regular coaching and development.  This will assist you to encourage and monitor improvement initiatives.

Residentially based in Townsville, you will work a Monday to Friday roster.  You are willing to respond to afterhours phones calls to support your team, or to attend for major breakdowns if required.

Your core duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Ensure maintenance of electrical equipment is undertaken in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. 
  • Coordinate implementation of electrical projects (capital, maintenance, safety, improvement, etc).
  • Manage the plant PCS, including hardware, software, and communication systems.
  • Carry out modifications to PLC/HMI programs.
  • Manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs for all PCS equipment.
  • Maintain documentation for the plant PCS, including hardcopies of documents required to assist other electrical team members to fault-find the PCS.
  • Maintain the integrity and reliability of the plant control systems by investigating the root cause equipment faults and develop appropriate remedial action.
  • Provide technical overview for the operation of the control systems.
  • Prepare regular reports on the overall control system performance.
  • Collate, analyse and trend electrical operating data to optimise control systems.
  • Review and approve instrument and control purchasing requisitions.
  • Perform program backups and manage the database of backed up programs.
  • Ensure field staff have access to accurate program information.
  • Assist field staff in fault finding.

Desired Skills and Experience

To be successful in this challenging role, you will need:

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • RPEQ for control systems.
  • Minimum of five years industrial experience in a heavy industry or processing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in using CITECT SCADA and Concept 2.6, Unit Pro, Control Expert program.
  • Demonstrated experience with AB PLC, Schneider Electric PLC and instrumentation, HMI communications, LV MCC’s, and motors, Instrumentation, PLC’s, VSD’s, Control system theory, engineering and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated experience with fault finding and root cause analysis or equivalent tools.
