About the Role

Sun Metals is seeking a motivated and hands-on Grounds Person to join our team. Reporting to the Administration Services team, you will play an important role in maintaining the refinery's extensive grounds and supporting environmental and site compliance activities.

This is a diverse role suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in maintaining high standards, and is committed to safety and environmental stewardship.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

In this role you will:

  • Maintain refinery grounds, lawns, gardens, trees, shrubs, fencing, vegetation buffers and grassed areas through mowing, edging, trimming, slashing and general grounds maintenance.
  • Carry out weed management and vegetation control, including herbicide application, fertilising and declared weed control.
  • Operate, inspect and maintain grounds maintenance equipment, irrigation systems, pumps, bores and associated infrastructure.
  • Maintain safe access to environmental monitoring infrastructure including groundwater bores, discharge points, hydrants, tanks and monitoring tracks.
  • Support fire management activities by maintaining firebreaks, vegetation buffers and fencelines.
  • Assist with drainage maintenance by clearing vegetation and debris while protecting groundcover and preventing erosion.
  • Identify and report pest species, invasive weeds, environmental hazards, drainage issues and equipment faults.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and support planning and scheduling of seasonal grounds maintenance activities.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with company procedures and environmental requirements.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A current Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control (ACDC) licence for herbicide application.
  • A current LR Driver Licence.
  • Chainsaw operation and maintenance certification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • A proactive approach to safety, environmental responsibility and continuous improvement.

Desired Skills and Experience

Skills & Experience

You will bring experience in:

  • Grounds and landscape maintenance.
  • Lawn mowing, slashing, edging and vegetation management.
  • Herbicide and weed control programs.
  • Operation and maintenance of irrigation systems and pumps.
  • Fence repairs and general property maintenance.
  • Safe operation and routine maintenance of grounds maintenance equipment including mowers, brush cutters and chainsaws.

Desirable experience includes:

  • Environmental monitoring support activities.
  • Routine maintenance of sewage treatment plants.
  • Knowledge of declared weed management, firebreak maintenance and erosion control.

Additional Requirements

The successful candidate will be required to maintain the following vaccinations:

  • Q Fever, Tetanus, Hepatitis A, and Hepatitis B
