Located 15km from the Townsville CBD, Sun Metals is one of the most technologically advanced zinc refineries in the world, producing Special High Grade Zinc metal, Zinc Alloy metal and by-products of Sulfuric Acid, Copper, Cadmium, and Zinc Ferrite. Our process involves Roasting, Leaching, Purification, Electrolysis and Casting with sales to both domestic and international markets.

Having recently built the largest (125MWac) integrated industrial use solar plant in Australia and, in conjunction with sister company Ark Energy Corporation, now building the SunHQ Hydrogen Hub, we are well on track.
About the role
This critical role supports the mechanical maintenance team, this will involve working with fixed and rotating plant equipment which includes conveyors, fans and blowers and agitators, ensuring the safe production of cost effective, quality zinc products.
About you
With your Trade Certificate (Cert III Engineering) and strong focus and commitment to safety, you will have gained experience in minerals processing operations or similar heavy industry. You can execute both planned and breakdown maintenance on fixed plant and rotating equipment.
Your strong work ethic and problem-solving skills allow you to work autonomously with limited supervision, or when required, as part of a team. You can safely and effectively plan your workload and have a can-do attitude.
Other desirable, however not essential, skills and experience include:
- Proficiency in Word, Excel and CMMS (JDE, Oracle or SAP)
- Post trade welding competencies and experience (Manual Metal Ark Welding)
- Experience in maintaining with conveyors, agitators, piping, fans and valve systems.
- Experience with alignments and tracking.
