Job Description

About the Position

Due to ongoing plant expansion, Sun Metals is seeking an experienced Electrical Tradesperson to join our Electrical Maintenance Team. This is a continuous shift role operating on a lifestyle roster, incorporating both day and night 12-hour shifts.

You will work alongside one other Electrical Tradesperson during each shift, across one of four crews. Shift coverage and overtime opportunities are available as required. This role reports directly to the Electrical Maintenance Team Leader.

Roster pattern:
4 on, 5 off, 5 on, 4 off, 5 on, 5 off (day and night shifts)


Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot a wide variety of electrical motor control systems

  • Conduct regular inspections of work areas and plant to identify hazards, compliance issues, damage, and defects

  • Prepare time and material estimates for planned maintenance tasks

  • Support and mentor new team members in the application of company policies and procedures

  • Ensure maintenance activities are completed to a high standard and in accordance with statutory requirements

  • Maintain site plant and equipment in line with maintenance schedules while prioritising safety and maximising production

  • Fault-find PLCs, automation systems, and electrically controlled systems

  • Work with robotics and automated processes

  • Collaborate with other on-site trades, including mechanical fitters and contractors, to complete work orders to a high standard

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives

  • Demonstrate a sound understanding of field instrumentation, including overhaul and repair

  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, P&IDs, and SLDs

Desired Skills and Experience

About You

You will meet the following criteria:

  • Relevant Electrical Trade Certificate with post-trade experience

  • Queensland Electrical Fitter/Mechanic Licence issued by the Queensland Electrical Safety Office

  • Experience in a refinery or similar heavy industry (desirable)

  • Strong safety focus

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Computer literacy, including MS Word and Excel

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team

  • Ability to work continuous shift work on the lifestyle roster

  • Willingness to provide shift coverage and work overtime as required
